PME is a name used several times, this manufacturer is a great producer of decorating accessories for cakes and cupcakes. As it operates in several countries, the company has several slightly adapted names. For example, PME Cake HK in Hong Kong, PME Cake USA and PME Cake SA in South Africa belong to PME Cake Limited, which has its headquarters in South Harrow in England. So today it is a huge company, the products are delivered to over 85 countries, but it started quite differently than one would expect.
in 1956, the company PME was founded in London. The name is an abbreviation for Precision Machining Engineers. From this you can see immediately that baking and decorating accessories were not the speciality of PME from the beginning. Engineers invented and produced precisely dimensioned and processed products for medical and dental use, individual parts for car manufacturers and even cigar cutters were produced for Harrod's.
The company's entry into the production of kitchen utensils was also very unusual. This came about through an order from the catering squad of the United Kingdom's military. The order was for over 2000 stainless steel royal icing rulers, which can be used, for example, to smooth the surface of a cake spread with buttercream or royal icing.
Through their involvement with baking, they quickly realised that there was a gap in the market. There were hardly any manufacturers of innovative and precisely produced baking accessories. So PME stepped into this gap and inspired countless baking enthusiasts with their innovative and traditional products.
Their best-known ideas include the cake turntable for easier spreading and decorating, the seamless piping nozzles, the cookie cutters with ejectors or embossers and various modelling tools. Today, PME already has over 2000 products in all kinds of categories, both edible and non-edible.
To expand and for local production, the company has also expanded to other continents and merged with other companies. For example, the manufacturers JEM Cutters from South Africa and Knightsbridge Bakeware were incorporated.
With a lot of innovation and a pronounced effort to achieve the highest quality, PME became one of the largest manufacturers of cake decorating and baking products. We are always excited about the new products that PME brings to the market and are thrilled about the accessories that we already offer in our online shop.

We are particularly keen on the accessories for making sugar flowers. In our sugar flower course, you can learn how to make a large open rose or a small bud out of flower paste, for example. These look incredibly real and are guaranteed to embellish any cake.
The individual petals and, if necessary, the centre or the pollen of PME, must of course somehow hold together and be able to be aligned individually. To do this, they are strung onto flower wires of the appropriate thickness and colouring. These are then twisted together or attached to each other in such a way that the petals are nicely open or closed and remain so, just as you wish.
Florist's tape is then used to secure and wrap the wires well. The tape is wrapped very tightly around the wires and at most the lower part of the sugar flower, so it sticks by itself. The florist's tape is slightly stretchy, so wrapping is easier. It does not stain the sugar flower or the cake and also has a waxed and therefore water-repellent surface, so it is perfect for use with food.
To attach the flowers to the cake, there are so-called flower tips. The wire or, if real roses are used, the stem of the flower should not come into direct contact with the cake. For this reason, the flower tips are inserted into the cake, into which the flower can then be placed.
The production of such wonderful sugar flowers is of course somewhat demanding. If you want to make it a little easier, PME also offers many tools. For example, a hemispherical cake can be transformed into a princess with a long skirt using the Barbie cake topper. To transport the cake safely, it is placed on a cake plate from PME, which is available in thin or thick versions. Then it only needs to be placed in a cake box and it is ready for transport.
Cupcakes can also be decorated in no time at all with the help of PME tools. Roll out some fondant, the last time you roll over it with a texture roller, this creates a great pattern. Now you can cut out circles or cut them with the fondant scissors. Stick the circles onto the cupcake, which has been coated with a little ganache, royal icing or buttercream. If the circle is still a little too big or not quite in the centre, you can help it out with the fondant scissors.
Then cut out rose petals from some coloured fondant using the cookie cutter set. These can easily be rolled up or joined together with floral wire to create a rose. Use the leaf cutters to cut out little green leaves and place them with the roses on the cupcake.
It looks particularly elegant if you then place a cupcake wrapper around the cupcake. This is a slightly rounded strip with a great pattern, which is best made over a plain cupcake tin or the removed cupcake. The finished cupcakes are then placed in a cupcake box with a divider so they can't slide around. This way, they can be easily taken to a party or given away as a gift!
With the products from PME, every decoration is a success!
