Spending an afternoon in the bakery creating a great gingerbread house is part of every Advent season! Cutting out the house yourself or putting it together with the cookie cutters in the cupboard can be difficult and it can be frustrating if the house doesn't turn out the way you want. With this cutter set, the gingerbread house is guaranteed to be a success and you can concentrate fully on the decoration. The cutters are made of food-safe plastic and can be easily washed by hand.
Prepare a delicious gingerbread dough. This tastes wonderfully spicy and is very sturdy, making it perfect for building an edible house. Depending on the decoration, it can be a snow-covered house in the middle of a winter wonderland or a spooky witch's house in a dense forest.
Cut the dough into large pieces so that it is easier to roll out. Use a rolling mat as a base or put enough flour on your work surface. Then roll out the gingerbread dough to 3 to 5 mm using rolling pins. Then take the cookie cutters. Cut out each piece twice. Roll out the remaining dough to 5 mm and cut it into a rectangle, which will then serve as the base. Bake the individual pieces according to the recipe and brush with gum arabic while still warm.
While the gingerbread is cooling, you can prepare the icing. Either make your own egg white icing or mix a royal icing mix with a little water. You can color some of the mixture green for the fir trees, for example, or red or light blue for a decoration. Pour the white icing into a piping bag with a perforated nozzle. It is best to apply decorations to the walls now, as the icing will run down the walls and smudge the pattern. Then prepare the base plate and start with the walls of the house. These must be glued to the base plate and to each other. Then use enough royal icing to assemble the roof and chimney and glue them in place. Give the house enough time to dry after each step so that it is sure to hold well. A support, such as a glass or measuring cup, often helps too.
Once the house is finished, all that's missing is the rest of the decoration. Let your creativity run wild! For example, stick on small sweets such as jelly babies, Smarties and sugar pearls or decorate the house with colored royal icing. You can also stick almonds on the roof to make it look like the nuts are bricks. There are no limits to the decorations you can make - so this is also great fun for children. The cookie house can also be made from shortcrust pastry or modeling dough. So, let's get started!
These cookie cutters are made of food-safe, sturdy plastic. We recommend rinsing the cookie cutter under warm running water immediately after use. Of course, the cookie cutter can also be cleaned in the dishwasher.
