An embossing mold is essential for creating artistic decorative elements from fondant or marzipan. We at miniSchoggi explain possible uses for the creation of realistic flowers and leaves.
Use of the embossing die
Embossing molds differ in the way they are used. Flower as well as leaf formers are usually rounded molds into which fondant is either pressed or already formed fondant flowers are placed. The latter shape is used to give flowers and leaves a natural curve that stands out clearly from the flat plane of the cake, and does not have a leaf or flower embossing in every case. First embossing shape gives the cut piece of fondant not only a natural bend, but also realistic plant embossing.
To make the leaves and flowers look really real, it is advisable to roll out the fondant as thinly as possible for both types of embossing mold. Once the fondant has hardened somewhat, you can color the various decorative elements with airbrush or liquid powder paint.
Other molds are suitable for the design of stucco and pearl elements. Fondant is pressed into these mostly elongated silicone molds and the excess is removed with a scraper. Since these elements are usually attached to the sides of the cake, it should not cure too long in the mold. Because if the fondant is too hard, the small decorative elements no longer adapt to the curve of the cake and are difficult to attach. You can use other embossing dies to emboss the fondant top and give it a pillow-like shape or a classy lace pattern.
In general, embossing molds are suitable not only for use with fondant, but also for marzipan or couverture. If you use couverture to create artistic chocolate flowers, you should fill the silicone mold several times with a thin layer of couverture and spread it carefully. This creates delicate blossoms that literally melt in your mouth.
Silicone embossing molds for flowers, animals, leaves and other motifs can be found in our online store. Silicone mass for making your own molds is also available.
