My Little Day was founded, how could it be otherwise, by two loving mothers. The job as a mother is often exhausting and stressful, and children's birthday parties are no exception. On the contrary, suddenly a whole group of children has to be looked after, kept busy and fed, the house or garden should be beautifully decorated and a birthday cake should not be missing either. With such a mass of tasks, a stressful day is inevitable.

It was precisely this problem that Gabriella Toscan du Plantier and Dorothée Monestier set out to tackle and in 2010 they founded the French company My Little Day. Their goal: to make children's birthday parties one of the most beautiful and at the same time most relaxing days of the year. But how can this be achieved? Not a difficult question for My Little Day. With a wide variety of decorative items, the house and garden can be decorated in no time, craft sets keep the children busy and let them take home something great, disposable tableware with great motifs ensures less chaos and more fun at mealtimes. The birthday party is guaranteed to be a success!

With My Little Day, children's birthday parties are relaxed and life itself becomes a little party. Nevertheless, the company naturally also bears a great responsibility due to its large production and the many different products. For years, the company has been working hard to make production and distribution even more environmentally friendly.

One particular success was the switch to European manufacturers for all disposable tableware. This shortens transport routes and makes it easy to check working conditions. The wood for the paper plates comes exclusively from FSC-certified, sustainable forestry. The colours used for the patterns and motifs are vegetable-based, as is the coating. Instead of the conventional plastic coating, My Little Days uses a vegetable varnish that prevents the plates from softening.

The packaging is also constantly being adapted, the napkins are all packed with an environmentally friendly plastic that is made from wood using a new technique and is therefore recyclable.
All latex balloons are also made from natural latex in Europe and coloured with water-based paints and mineral pigments. Of course, there are still many products that are still made in Asia, but even for these, great efforts are made to find production sites in Europe.

Furthermore, all materials are to be environmentally friendly and organic, another major commitment of My Little Day. Thus, it is clearly declared which products are environmentally friendly, compostable, ethically produced, from FSC production and manufactured in Europe or even France.

With the diverse products and many tips, tricks and instructions on their website, My Little Day thus supports countless mothers and ensures terrific children's birthday parties!

Birthday ideas

Probably the most important thing at any children's birthday party is keeping the kids occupied. As long as they can play, do handicrafts or run around happily, the party is a success. It also relieves the adults, because if the children are concentrated on a game or can even devote themselves independently to a craft project, there is no chaos, no boredom and often there is some time left for the parents to relax or prepare the next activity.

To help you organise and make the birthday party a relaxed occasion, we have collected some suggestions for the next children's birthday party.

Decorate cupcakes or biscuits

Children love to be able to decorate something themselves and when it tastes so delicious, everyone is guaranteed to be enthusiastic! This activity requires some preparation. Biscuits or cupcakes need to be baked in advance for all the children. If there is not much time the day or morning before the party, the cupcakes can be baked a few days before and frozen, the biscuits will stay fresh for a few days in an airtight tin. You can find a recipe for both treats on our blog.

You also need to provide decorations. Fondant is best for cupcakes and egg white icing for biscuits. If you want to decorate cupcakes with the children, you will need different colours of fondant, one or more rolling pins, cookie cutters, baker's starch and some food colouring pens. Some edible glue and egg white icing are also useful. The fondant is always kneaded a little, from this the children can directly model something or roll it out on some baker's starch and cut something out. The cupcakes are covered with a circle of fondant, which holds best if it is glued on with a little royal icing. Then use edible glue to stick on cut-out flowers, animals and figures, and the food pens allow you to add further decorations.

To decorate delicious Guetzli, you need egg white icing, some food colouring, some cornet paper or piping bags and some sprinkled decorations such as sugar hearts, pearls or edible paper flowers. An egg white icing can be easily mixed with our Royal Icing Mix, then the amount is divided and each is coloured with a little paste colour. The colours are then distributed into cornet paper or piping bags. Through the fine hole, the children can pipe patterns, letters and figures onto their biscuits, then sprinkle decorations onto them.

Whether cupcakes or biscuits, this way every child will take home a sweet memory of the successful party.

Smarties game

If you need a minute to yourself or if the children need to be kept busy, the Smartiesspiel is perfect. All you need are some Smarties or other small sweets such as M&Ms, dragées, chocolate-covered sultanas or almonds or something similar. Some of these are placed on the table, unordered and a little apart from each other. One child then turns around briefly or walks a few steps away, while the others are allowed to agree on a Smarties that is enchanted.

The other child now comes back and may tap on one of the Smarties. It is best if the other children appoint a spokesperson who tells the guessing child whether the Smartie is enchanted or not. If the chosen one is not the enchanted one, the guessing child gets to eat it. Each child takes his turn guessing until he chooses the enchanted Smartie, which he may only eat if it is the last one left on the table. If the enchanted one is chosen, it is the next child's turn and a new enchanted Smarties is chosen. In this way, the children are also well occupied on their own, with the amount of Smarties that are put on the table at once, you can regulate how much the children eat at most. After all, there must be some appetite left over for the birthday cake!

Scavenger hunt

Another half-day programme is a scavenger hunt. This is especially practical for small groups if at least one person can accompany the children, and it is also practical to have another person help out.

A scavenger hunt requires some preparation and a short story. Depending on the birthday child's preferences, you can come up with a little pirate, princess or detective story, for example. Find a route that the children like to walk and on which various clues can be hidden. The latter can be chalk arrows on the road, little riddles, pictures or even objects that can be attached to street lamps, trees, bushes, sculptures or half under a stone. For example, a kidnapped person can write a call for help on a piece of paper and give a hint as to where they are being taken. At this place, a small riddle or a picture is then hidden again, which leads to the next place, and so on and so forth, until the person sought is found at the end. In the meantime, the person has already had time to prepare something at home, so after the exhausting search, the children are rewarded with a tasty snack or a sweet snack!

A great birthday party is not difficult at all! With creative ideas, good preparation and the great products from My Little Day, the party will be fun and relaxed!
