Apple roses made from crispy puff pastry

Apple roses - a crispy puff pastry delight

The apple rose muffins are not just an eye-catcher. They also taste great and go perfectly with any coffee or tea party, whether for breakfast, a snack or just in between. They are also a great gift to take with coffee, as they are quick to make but the wow effect is all the greater for it. With these sugary, fruity and buttery roses, you really will impress everyone.

The fruity-sweet flavour of the apple harmonises wonderfully with the crispy puff pastry. As a dessert recommendation, you can top this sweet temptation with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. You can also replace the apples with pears. So - what are you waiting for? Get behind your worktop and prepare this delicious treat! They are really easy to prepare and can be made in no time at all - that's a promise!

Most important key data

Quantity: 5 pieces

Baking time: approx. 35 minutes

Level of difficulty: Easy

Ingredients

Puff pastry250 g
Apricot jam | little
Apple1 piece of
Whole egg (whisked egg)25 g

Making the apple florets

Using a pastry cutter, cut the short side of the puff pastry (approx. 25 x 38 cm) into five equal strips. Spread the individual strips with a little apricot jam. You can also sprinkle a little cinnamon on top if you wish.

Wash an apple, cut it into quarters, core it and cut each quarter into very thin slices. The thinner the apple strips, the easier it is to roll them up into florets. If you prefer thicker apple slices, you can blanch them briefly first to soften them and make them easier to roll up.

Line up the thinly sliced apple slices on the upper half of the edge. Now you can fold the bottom half of the pastry upwards and brush with a little egg wash.

Now roll the whole thing into a rose. (It's best to keep one hand on the apple halves so that they don't slip upwards when rolling) Next, you will need a cupcake baking tray, greased with a little baking spray or butter. Place the rolled-up roses directly into the cupcake baking tray or use cupcake moulds and bake at 180 °C fan oven for approx. 30 minutes.

If the edges of the apple slices threaten to get too dark, simply cover the apple florets with aluminium foil after approx. 15 minutes.

Storage & shelf life

It is best to pack the finished roses in a cake box and store them at room temperature. They will keep for up to 3 days. After that, they will simply become drier and drier.
